| The 3 culturing devices described are based on the principle of the classic air-water lift, which facilitates continuous recirculation and aeration of the cultivation medium. The first device is a "circulation cylinder", convenient for hatching eggs of the brine shrimp <i>Artemia salina</i> and for culturing algae and protozoans. In the second device, an internal basket (i.e., a glass cylinder with plankton-gauze bottom) prevents the animals being carried along in the air-water lift. | Previously to its use as culturing medium for algae, we have studied the various characteristics of the sewage extracted from marine fish rearing ponds, through a purificating system called "foamer". Qualitatively, this sewage differs from the sea water which produced it on various points : It is richer than the water in Organic Carbon, Organic Nitrogen, Ammonia, particulate matters, phosphorus and varied metals. | For characterization of strains of the brine shrimp <i>Artemia</i> of different geographical origin, a standard culture test has been developed in order to compare statistically growth and survival of larvae of different strains. 25 geographical strains have been studied so far -including, for 3 strains, analyses of cysts harvested at different times. Important differences in rates of growth and survival were observed between strains but not among batches of the same strain. Best performances were noted for strains from Bahia Salinas (Puerto Rico), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Chaplin Lake (Canada), Great Salt Lake (Utah, USA), Galera Zamba and Manaure (Colombia). |

| The possibility to develop a routine batch culturing method for the production of cysts has been examined at laboratory scale. | Les résultats de la campagne 1979-1980 ont montré la nécessité d'améliorer les performances de l'alevinage pour obtenir des résultats de production intéressants en cycle ouvert dans les conditions bretonnes. En effet, une augmentation du taux de smoltification à un an ne semble pouvoir être obtenue dans des conditions économiquement intéressantes (Charge très supérieure à 2 kg/m2), qu'à condition que la taille des tacons soit au moins égale à 6-7 cm en septembre de la première année.
